Folk art, Craft, Lore...

Hello and welcome! My name is Božena (the "z" is pronounced like "j" in french "j'adore")
I'm a folk artist, community organiser, educator, and homesteader, passionate about vernacular culture and practices that connect us to our roots!

I work with various craft forms, including pysanky, textiles, and straw weaving and follow the folk calendar of seasonal rituals and landtending from Ukrainian & Eastern European traditions as learned from elders in my community, (and beyond); I share my love of handcraft, beautymaking and "the folk life" through public outreach & engagement. I teach and organise learning opportunities -- check out my projects and portfolio to learn more.

I create folk art in community, and inspire others
to connect to their roots.
I'm the founder and director of KOSA ARTS (FOLK CAMP CANADA), an organisation connecting people with the folk arts, crafts, music, and land based traditions of Eastern Europe in the Canadian context. As co-founder of the Kosa Kolektiv, I've collaborated with many talented and skilled artists, musicians, and community organisations in Ontario (and across Canada) to promote the richness of Ukrainian and Eastern European cultures, and to facilitate meaningful connections for people (cross-culturally and within their own lineage).
